Cafe de Tacuba in Mexico City, Mexico

On a recent trip to Mexico City, we visited Cafe de Tacuba in the historical center area (see its Google Maps location here).

This place has been serving up excellent traditional Mexican cuisine for more than one hundred years. A former psychiatric hospital ran by a convent, it is said to be haunted by a nun murdered by a patient who was truly “madly” in love with her. Today, in her honor, the wait staff dress up as orderlies and nurses.

We had a bit of a weird experience here (see my TripAdvisor review here), but I would still recommend this place. We especially enjoyed its consommé and mole.

The best part of our dining experience is being serenaded by an estudantina group under the elegant setting, and the atmosphere was especially festive since we were there during Mexican Independence Day week. Here’s a quick compilation of some videos we shot. Please enjoy!
